I tried various crops of this photo, including with and without the ‘circle’ in the bottom left corner. Normally I would have cropped it out, but somehow the remaining image didn’t seem as balanced as when I left it in.

Glad you left in the circle, though I can’t say why. May have something to do with helping to identify the photograph as being of a wall . . .

Great photo! I feel that the circle makes a nice counter point, making your eyes momentarily leave the window until you realize that it’s the window you want to pay attention to.

I think you are right about the balancing and leaving in the ‘circle’. Many times I myself have been cropping and restoring images, then suddenly it becomes clear which option pleases me best, not always knowing why. For me it could be worthwhile studying this effect in order to get better pictures in the future.

I don’t think there is a right and a wrong, but to my eye it was better. This is the challenge of minimal photography, leaving just enough detail to make the photo interesting to the viewer!
